Overview

Medico-Legal experience

Mr Naqui has been preparing medico-legal reports since 2012. Mr Naqui keeps up to date and maintains best practice as an Expert by undertaking medico-legal training courses. These include the Specialist Info Medico-Legal Expert Witness Essentials Course, the Bond Salon Excellence Course and the Specialist Info Medico-Legal Clinical Negligence Course. Mr Naqui is happy to be instructed by both Claimant and Defendant law firms in personal injury and clinical negligence actions.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Mr Naqui graduated from University College, London in 1997. His basic and higher surgical training in Trauma & Orthopaedics were in the North West. Mr Naqui held further clinical fellowships in Manchester (National Interface Hand Fellow) and Wrightington, as well as visiting fellowships to Harvard University (Massachusetts General Hospital) and The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota USA. He works exclusively as a specialist Consultant Orthopaedic Hand and Wrist Surgeon since 2008. He provides a tertiary referral service for management of complex injuries to the Hand and Wrist. He is the Clinical Director for Trauma, Orthopaedics and Plastic Surgery at Salford Royal NHS FT.

Mr Naqui was awarded dual post graduate certification in Hand Surgery from both the British and European boards of Hand Surgery in 2013, becoming the first surgeon to hold these awards. In 2016, he was awarded the first ever Masters of Hand Surgery from the BSSH and University of Manchester for his research into wrist ligament injury (scapholunate dissociation). He is one of only two surgeons to hold all three accolades. Mr Naqui has also completed a Master’s degree in Orthopaedic Engineering.

Clinical Interests

Mr Naqui’s elective practice is exclusively hand and wrist surgery. He also specialises in complex hand and wrist trauma and sports injuries.

Research Interests

Mr Naqui's Research interests include trauma, wrist pain, wrist and hand arthritis, thumb arthritis, and carpal tunnel syndrome.

Management Experience

Mr Naqui has a lot of management experience. He is the Clinical Director for Orthopaedic and Plastic Surgery at the Northern Care Alliance (incorporating Salford Royal, Bury, Rochdale and Oldham hospitals). He is on the Executive Board for both the Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand (FESSH) and the British Society for Surgery of the Hand. He is the chair of communications for FESSH. He was also lead for the digital committee of the Journal of Hand Surgery.

Summary of Publications

Mr Naqui has presented numerously within the UK and internationally. His research publications include book chapters in Hand Surgery. These can be found on Google Scholar under Zaf Naqui.

Teaching & Training

Mr Naqui is an educational supervisor of the National Interface Hand Fellows at The Manchester Hand Centre at Salford Royal.Nr Naqui is an examiner for both the British and European Board Hand Diplomas. He is a committee member for the BSSH Instructional Courses in Hand Surgery, which provide a higher surgical education covering all aspects of Hand Surgery. He is the founder and convenor of the BSSH Masterclasses in Hand Surgery, training other Hand Surgeons from across Europe. He is the digital media editor for the prestigious Journal of Hand Surgery (European).
