Medico-Legal experience

Professor Bhatti has been acting as an expert witness for 16 years. He enjoys a full medico-legal practice instructed by both Claimant and Defendant law firms in personal injury and clinical negligence cases.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Professor Waqar Bhatti graduated as a Doctor from the University of Manchester in 1992 and subsequently became a Consultant in Musculoskeletal and Sports Radiology at the University Hospital of South Manchester in September 2001. Professor Bhatti currently practices at The Alexandra Hospital. He has been the personal Radiologist to Manchester premiership football clubs since 2007, and to Lancashire County Cricket Club, and several rugby clubs. Professor Bhatti was the only Radiologist from the region at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and provided support to the 2012 Olympic teams based in Manchester. He continues to provide support to British Cycling, British Athletics Athletes, the national Taekwondo and ladies netball teams, and multiple other sports professionals including boxers and golfers. Professor Bhatti specialises in diagnostic radiology, joint injection therapies, specialised shoulder injection therapies, and biological treatments, including autologous conditioned plasma in treatment of early osteoarthritis, platelet rich plasma therapy, and fat derived stem cell treatment.

Clinical Interests

Professor Bhatti is interested in radiological diagnosis of muscle and joint related pain. He also takes interest in sports injuries, simple to complex joint and soft tissue injections, and biological treatments including rich platelet rich plasma, autologous plasma treatments, and fat STEM cell treatments. He is an experienced Professor with skills in healthcare management, sports medicine, clinical research, medical education, and medicine.

Research Interests

Professor Bhatti’s current research includes adopting stem cells for clinical use, and new platelet-rich plasma therapies for use in the treatment of osteoarthritis.

Management Experience

In his NHS practice at the University Hospital of South Manchester, Professor Bhatti organised and directed the first comprehensive musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging service in Manchester, including the introduction of the first dedicated finger ultrasound service.

Teaching & Training

Professor Bhatti holds an Honorary Professorship at the Salford University Manchester School of Health Sciences, and a Visiting Professorship at the Manchester Metropolitan University Department of Health in recognition for the development and delivery of two successful courses on applied Orthopaedic Radiology and Sports Radiology. He is also an Honorary Clinical Lecturer for the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Manchester, and a Demonstrator in Anatomy at the Victoria University of Manchester. He has delivered more than a thousand postgraduate and undergraduate lectures.
