Overview

Medico-Legal experience

Professor Chhetri is currently undergoing his expert witness training and is registered with APIL, National Crime Agency (NCA) and the UK Register of Expert Witnesses. He is happy to represent both Claimant and Defendant law firms in both personal injury and clinical negligence actions. Professor Chhetri can usually turnaround reports within 6-8 weeks, sooner if required.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Professor Suresh Chhetri was appointed Consultant Neurologist at the regional Neurosciences Centre at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2014. He undertook general medical training at Yorkshire and Manchester and completed neurology training from the Greater Manchester Neurosciences Centre and Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He served as the Clinical Governance lead for Neurology as well as the College Tutor of the Royal College of Physicians at Royal Preston Hospital from 2017 to 2020. In 2018, he was appointed Honorary Clinical Professor at the University of Central Lancashire. Professor Chhetri has led significant improvements in delivery of patient care by working in collaboration with local and national partners/institutions through innovation, education and research within a culture of compassion, teamwork, integrity and empowerment.

Clinical Interests

As clinical Director for Neurology, Professor Chhetri ensures the improvement of neurological outcomes and reduced significant events by leading the neurology service and facilitating the development of effective governance. He also undertakes mortality reviews, as well as responding to clinical incidents and complaints within the department to reduce the repeat of such instances. He manages a wide variety of neurological conditions including headache, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and nerve and muscle disease. He has a specialist interest in motor neurone disease.

Research Interests

As Consultant research fellow at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, Professor Chhetri has an impressive and extensive background in research, having over 25 publications, is a co-author on a chapter in a book, and is principal investigator in a number of multi-centre and multi-national studies. He is a member of a National Institute for Health (NIHR) committee for Research for Patient Benefit (PfPB) as well as the UK Motor Neurone Disease (MND) clinical studies group. Professor Chhetri is also the Co-Director of Lancashire and South Cumbria MND care and research Centre.

Teaching & Training

Professor Chhetri is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has postgraduate training in medical education. He is an accredited clinical and educational supervisor for postgraduate students, and has worked with universities such as the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) to develop neurosciences education and research collaborations; he was appointed Honorary Clinical Professor here in 2018. Professor Chhetri has an active role in the delivery and development of education; he has organised educational programmes at LTHTR, led the development of e-learning, delivered a number of invited lectures including at the Royal College of Physicians and UCLan, and has delivered evening teaching sessions on neurology to GP groups.
