Dr Maguire is happy to receive instructions from both Claimant and Defendant law firms.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Dr Maguire is a full-time Consultant Anaesthetist at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust with private practice at Spire Manchester and The Pines.  He gained his medical qualification in 1993 and undertook the post of consultant in anaesthesia in 2002. Dr Maguire has a broad clinical experience with on-call activity. This includes anaesthesia for obstetric, general and paediatric patients in the elective and emergency setting.   Dr Maguire is active in the local, regional and national training arena.

Clinical Interests

Dr Maguire’s clinical interests include obstetric anaesthesia, anaesthesia for plastic surgery and burns and anaesthesia for general surgery.

Research Interests

Dr Maguire is involved as primary author or chapter author in 10 anaesthesia books. He has been a peer reviewer for BJA and EJA and was an editor for Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine, 2015 – 2023.

Management Experience

Dr Maguire has held to the role of College Tutor, Training Programme Director and Royal College Regional Advisor for the North West region. He is currently the Lead Regional Advisor for the Royal College of Anaesthetists and sat on the College Council up until September 24. Dr Maguire has just been appointed as the Bernard Johnson Advisor for Training, a national role. He has previously been the lead for Obstetric Anaesthesia at his Trust. Dr Maguire has organised and chaired many national meetings in the last few years in his role as Lead RA.

Summary of Publications

Dr Maguire has published 18 research posters and 10 research abstracts.

Teaching & Training

Dr Maguire is on the North West School of Anaesthesia Executive committee which organises the quality control of the 7-year training scheme for over 200 anaesthesia trainee in the region. Nationally, he is a member of the Training Committee & Curriculum Review Committee at the RCOA.
