Clinical Practice & Experience
Dr Taylor has 30 years NHS experience, 20 years in psychiatry, 17 years experience as a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist. Dr Taylor attended medical school in Bristol from 1993-1998 before working in General Medicine, General Surgery, Accident and Emergency and Orthopaedics until 2001 when he entered psychiatry. He trained as a Psychiatrist (MRCPsych) and then as a Forensic Psychiatrist in Birmingham from 2001-2007 before starting work as an NHS Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist in 2007. Dr Taylor has worked in low, medium and high secure forensic psychiatric hospitals for over 15 years. He also has experience of community forensic psychiatry, including working in an Approved Premises as a regular visiting psychiatrist. He was the regular visiting psychiatrist for a range of Category A and B prisons and a Young Offenders Institution for a number of years. Dr Taylor has worked in in-patient services for men and women as well as specialist in-patient personality disorder services. Much of this work involved assessing and treating the effects of trauma on individuals. He has developed and delivered interventions on alcohol and substance misuse to people affected by these.
Clinical Interests
Dr Taylor clinical interests include schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder and personality disorder. Other areas included PTSD, complex trauma, autism, depressive disorders and anxiety.
