Clinical Practice & Experience
Mrs Swan qualified as an Occupational Therapist from Oxford Brookes University in 2004. Experience to date has been across a broad range of clinical areas within the NHS, developing specialist clinical skills within Neurology, Women’s Health, Oncology and Acute Medicine. Mrs Swan progressed her career initially, working within neurology, gaining valuable skills from acute stroke, through to working in the Community Neurological Team in Lancashire. In 2014, she took up employment for Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, firstly working at Trafford General Hospital Stroke Rehabilitation to consolidate core skills within neurology. These valuable experiences led her to be able to provide advanced comprehensive assessments using analytical and observational skills, and formulate treatment programmes for individuals, working autonomously.
In 2021, Mrs Swan changed clinical areas to working in Women’s Health, within the Trust, where her core OT skills were utilised in setting up the OT service in a niche area. This involved working within gynaeoncology and maternity. An opportunity arose to progress to a senior specialist OT within the same hospital trust in 2023 where she currently works in the acute medical team. In this role she can utilise all her clinical skills and also is involved in the operation of the team, managing and developing staff, and taking the lead on complex discharges within the team.
