Clinical Practice & Experience
Ms Morris began her career in statistics as a lecturer at Southampton University, and then worked as a statistician in the MRC Environmental Epidemiology Unit. In 1987 she joined the NHS as a medical statistician at the Withington Hospital in Manchester. From there, Ms Morris moved to the Education Research Centre (ERC) at Wythenshawe Hospital in 1999, where she was Head of Medical Statistics for some 20 years. Currently, Ms Morris was an Honorary Reader in Medical Statistics at the University of Manchester until January 2024. Ms Morris is Statistical Advisor to the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine.
Research Interests
Ms Morris's expertise is broad and extensive, spanning across all stages of trial processes, from study design, data management and choosing an appropriate statistical approach, through to analysis, interpreting data and preparing final reports.
Management Experience
As Head of Medical Statistics at Wythenshawe Hospital, Ms Morris managed a small team of statisticians, organised and delivered a general statistical support service, and developed and ran a statistics education programme.
Summary of Publications
Ms Morris has written chapters in four published books and is the author of over 200 papers in peer-reviewed journals. Her research covers a variety of subject matters, including clinical trials, laboratory data and epidemiological studies.
Teaching & Training
Ms Morris has been central to delivering a wide range of teaching programmes in statistical methodology and critical appraisal for clinical and health-related researchers, and has been involved in teaching undergraduate and MSc students. She has also acted as a supervisor for a number of postgraduate students. In addition, Ms Morris has served as an examiner for the Royal College of Radiologists.
