Medico-Legal experience

Mr Panchmatia is an established expert witness and has a mature medicolegal practice.. He has undergone his expert witness training (Bond Solon). He is registered with APIL, AvMA, National Crime Agency (NCA) and the UK Register of Expert Witnesses. Mr Panchmatia enjoys a full medico-legal practice representing both Claimant and Defendant law firms in actions relating to personal injury and clinical negligence. He accepts both civil and criminal instructions. Mr Panchmatia provides the suite of medico-legal services including: medical reports; court appearances; desktop reports; screening reports, and case conferences. Mr Panchmatia has nationwide clinics, and conducts home and prison visits. He has short wait times – urgent instructions can be accommodated – with a fast turnaround on high quality reports.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Mr Panchmatia studied Medicine at Cambridge University. This included a clinical attachment at Yale University, USA. He furthered his education as a Fulbright Scholar at Harvard University, USA and was a visiting scholar at the Barrow Neurological Institute. Mr Panchmatia was subsequently awarded a Trauma & Orthopaedic Spine Fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, USA. In 2015, Mr Panchmatia was appointed as Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals, London (GSTT) specialising in spinal surgery. He is also the Clinical Governance Lead for trauma and orthopaedic surgery at GSTT. Mr Panchmatia treats elective and acute spinal conditions, offering both non-surgical and surgical treatments.

Clinical Interests

Mr Panchmatia accepts all cases including personal injuries; clinical negligence cases; work-related injuries and diseases; industrial injuries and disability reports; sports injuries, and road traffic accidents.

Mr Panchmatia’s spinal medico-legal interests include: whiplash; cauda equina syndrome; spinal trauma; spine fractures; osteoporotic fractures; spinal cord injuries including paralysis; failed back surgery; foot drop; back pain; neck pain; spinal tumours; spinal infections; soft tissue spine injuries; musculoskeletal spinal conditions; chronic back pain; orthopaedic conditions accompanying diseases of the spine; disc disease including disc prolapse/ disc protrusion/ bulging disc; stiff back; stiff neck; arm pain; leg pain and sciatica; shoulder pain;; numbness and paraesthesia in the arms and legs; lumbar and low back pain; pins and needles in the arms and legs; thoracic pain; cervical pain; thoracolumbar pain; neurological spinal injuries; degenerative conditions including spinal stenosis; spinal conditions associated with hypermobility including Ehlers-Danlos syndrome; myelopathy; deformities including spondylolisthesis;coccygeal pain (coccydynia).

Research Interests

Mr Panchmatia’s research interests include: 1. Improving the care of patients with spinal conditions. 2. Robotics, navigation and artificial intelligence. 3. Cauda equina syndrome. 4. Spinal fractures. 5. Spinal tumours (cancer). 6. Spinal infections. 7. Whiplash (and associated disorders including neck and arm pain). 8. Back pain.

Summary of Publications

Mr Panchmatia has over 70 academic presentations and publications. These include articles in the Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery, the Journal of Trauma, Neurosurgical Focus, and the Spine Journal. Mr Panchmatia has published with acclaimed Harvard University author and Surgeon, Professor Atul Gawande. Mr Panchmatia has published a book: Navigation and Robotics in Spine Surgery with Thieme Medical Publishers, New York.

Teaching & Training

Mr Panchmatia trains registrars and fellows in spinal surgery at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals. He has lectured at Cambridge University. He has presented to large audiences including the British Association of Spine Surgeons and the North American Spine Society.
