Medico-Legal experience
Mr Mowatt has attended medico-legal training. He is happy to be instructed by both Claimant and Defendant law firms in personal injury and clinical negligence cases.
Clinical Practice & Experience
Mr David Mowatt graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the St George’s Hospital, London in 1997, having previously trained in maxillofacial surgery. Following his general surgical training, he undertook specialist training in reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. He was later awarded his Doctorate from the University College London for research into tissue bioengineering and regenerative medicine undertaken at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. Since 2010, Mr Mowatt has been a consultant at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, one of the leading cancer hospitals in Europe. Alongside his work at the Christie NHS Foundation Trust, Mr Mowatt runs a parallel private practice, undertaking a similar scope of work.
Clinical Interests
Mr Mowatt specialises in cancer surgery and reconstructive surgeries following cancer treatments. His practice focuses on sarcoma surgery, including dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP). He also has a keen focus on all forms of skin cancer including malignant melanoma, squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, and rare skin cancers. Mr Mowatt has particular expertise in the surgical management of patients with sarcoma, skin cancers and reconstruction of complex defects.
Research Interests
Mr Mowatt, is involved in trials assessing effectiveness of new technologies in surgical resection margins.
Management Experience
Mr Mowatt was the Clinical Lead for the Plastic Surgery Department between 2013-2018 at the Christie NHS Foundation Trust. He now enjoys his position as Education Lead at the same Trust.
Summary of Publications
Mr Mowatt has published over 30 peer reviewed papers on plastic surgery and oncology topics and presents his work nationally and internationally.
Teaching & Training
Mr Mowatt is actively involved in the postgraduate training of future plastic surgeons. He is currently the Educational Lead for trainee plastic surgeons who rotate through the Christie, and is an Educational and Clinical supervisor for the Northwest Deanery. He teaches and supervises medical students from the University of Manchester. He also sits on the Annual Review of Competence Progression panel of the Northwest Deanery.

Fellowship in Plastic Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons FRCS (Plast) in 2009.
