Clinical Practice & Experience
After graduating from King’s College London in 1995, Dr Segal trained in general cardiology at St. Bartholomew’s and The London Chest Hospital before undertaking his doctorate (MD) research on mapping complex ventricular arrhythmias at The National Heart & Lung Institute, Imperial College, London.
His specialist postgraduate training in electrophysiology and device implantation was at some of London’s largest arrhythmia centres, including St. Mary’s Hospital, The Heart Hospital and St. George’s Hospital. In 2007, Dr Segal completed a Fellowship in pacing and electrophysiology at Prof. George Klein’s world-renowned electrophysiology unit in London, Ontario, Canada.
Dr Segal has over 20 years’ experience managing patients with arrhythmia and practising electrophysiology and in particular performing ablation and implanting cardiac rhythm devices. He has been a Consultant in the NHS at UCLH and Barts for 15 years. He has extensive experience is using a wide variety of different catheter mapping systems and catheter ablations technologies (performing >2,000 ablations) as well as many different technologies for cardiac rhythm device implantation and has performed >1,000 pacemaker/ICD/biventricular/ILR device procedures and performs leadless pacing and implants left atrial appendage occlusion devices.
Clinical Interests
Dr Segal’s clinical interests centre around catheter ablation, especially for atrial fibrillation ablation and three-dimensional mapping. He has specialist interests in leadless pacing and left atrial appendage occlusion devices for people who cannot take anticoagulants safely.
