Clinical Practice & Experience

After graduating in medicine from Imperial College School of Medicine (2009), Dr Eades trained in general (internal) medicine in London, becoming a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) in 2013. He then obtained a Master of Science in Infectious Diseases and HIV (2013) from UCL. He then entered higher specialist training in infectious diseases (including HIV medicine) and medical microbiology, gaining Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists (Medical Microbiology by examination) in 2017. He gained mycology experience with a sub-specialty research fellowship split between the National Aspergillosis Centre, Manchester, and The University of Manchester, conducting clinical work alongside a substantial piece of original research. His PhD thesis, for which he is a candidate at the University of Manchester, was titled ‘The Phenomenology of Antimicrobial Use in Haemato-oncology’. During this time, he established a link-service between infectious diseases and the haemato-oncology unit at Manchester Royal Infirmary for the first time.

Currently, Dr Eades holds the position of Consultant Physician in Infectious Diseases and Medical Mycology at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, London. His clinical work spans clinical and laboratory medicine, including the management of complex bacterial and fungal disease, sepsis and the management of infections in patients undergoing treatments for haematological disorders. He is one of only a few medically qualified mycology experts in the UK and is dual trained in clinical and laboratory medicine.

Clinical Interests

Dr Eades has a specialist interest in infectious diseases, medical mycology, and HIV medicine. His sub-specialty expertise is in the management and diagnosis of infections in immunocompromised hosts, including patients undergoing bone marrow transplantation.

Research Interests

Dr Eades’s research interests are grounded in clinical and laboratory mycology, including the association of novel therapies for cancer and autoimmune diseases with infection.

Management Experience

Dr Eades is a member of the British Society for Medical Mycology (BSMM) Best Practice Guidelines writing committee.

Teaching & Training

Currently, Dr Eades teaches Infectious Diseases SpRs and internal medicine training (IMT) Doctors in infectious diseases and medical microbiology. He also teaches Imperial College London medical students. Previously, he has taught students from various London Hospitals and Universities in infectious disease clinics. Dr Eades has also presented lectures at various Universities and has contributed to the MBChB curriculum in Infectious Diseases and HIV Medicine at the University of Manchester.
