Mr Reid is registered with the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), the UK Register of Expert Witnesses and the National Crime Agency (NCA). He happy to be instructed by Claimant and Defendant law firms in both personal injury and clinical negligence cases. Mr Reid is happy to conduct home and prison visits and can produce reports within 12-14 weeks, sooner if required.
Clinical Practice & Experience
Mr Reid graduated from the University of Edinburgh Medical School in 2001. He undertook plastic surgery training in the North-West Deanery and a clinical fellowship at the Canniesburn Plastic Surgery Unit, Glasgow Royal Infirmary, concentrating on complex limb reconstruction. Currently, Mr Reid is a Consultant Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon at the Wythenshawe Hospital, part of the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.
Clinical Interests
Mr Reid’s specialist interests include trauma, microsurgery, nerve injury, and complex limb reconstruction.
Research Interests
Mr Reid leads a research team at the Blond McIndoe Laboratories, University of Manchester, focusing on peripheral nerve injury / regeneration and adipose-derived stem cells in reconstructive surgery. He collaborates widely and his work is supported by funding from various sources including the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), the Medical Research Council (MRC), industry and charitable organisations. Since 2016, Mr Reid has been the Deputy and Reserve Editor for the Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgeons. Since 2018, he has been a member of the Scar Free Foundation Research Council (SFFRC), advising the Board of Trustees on the pursuit of the broad strategic research goals of the scar free strategy. Mr Reid also collaborates with the University of Zimbabwe, examining trauma systems for open lower limb injuries.
Summary of Publications
Mr Reid has over 50 original academic and scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals. This work spans injury and reconstruction in clinical research and laboratory-based science. Mr Reid regularly provides lay presentations on plastic surgery and presents his research at public events and for charitable donors.
Teaching & Training
Mr Reid is a dedicated educational and clinical supervisor for Health Education England North West Deanery and trains plastic surgeons and medical students at all levels. At the University of Manchester, he lectures and serves on the committee for the the Tissue Engineering & Regenerative Medicine (MSc) course and the Centre for Doctoral Training in Regenerative Medicine.
