
The prostate is an organ which lies just below the bladder and in front of the rectum in the male genitourinary tract. The prostate functions to allow the person to produce seminal fluid and assist in ejaculation. The prostate is usually smooth and soft on digital rectal exam (DRE), however when cancerous it becomes hard and irregular.
