Joanne Wilson qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1998 graduating with a Diploma of Higher Education in Nursing and subsequent registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. She worked for a short period in Adult Medicine before moving to Adult Intensive Care in 1999. It was during this time that she developed expertise in Critical Care, Critical Care Transport and became a Paediatric and Adult ECMO Specialist. Joanne Wilson also gained a BSc (Hons) in Specialist Nursing Practice (Critical Care) in 2004 and advanced through the many role before obtaining a Matron’s post in 2015.
In 2016, Joanne Wilson was able to obtain the post of a Paediatric Critical Care Matron for 2 Paediatric Critical Care Units (PCCU), one being a General PCCU and the other a Cardiac PCCU. She worked clinically and operationally supporting the PCCU’s and the wider Children’s Hospital providing senior leadership and clinical expertise. She also obtained a Paediatric Critical Care Specialist Qualification as well as Advanced Paediatric Life Support certification.
Clinical Interests
Critical Care is Joanne Wilson’s passion having worked in the field for most of her Nursing career with both adults and paediatrics. She also has a clinical interest in cardiac surgery and ECMO as these both featured heavily in her clinical practice throughout her career and continues to do so.
