Dr Smith obtained her MBBS in 1988 from the University of Melbourne; she later went on to qualifiy as a Doctor of Medicine in 1998, her research focusing on factors determining the outcome of hepatitis C virus infection. Currently, Dr Smith is a Consultant Hepatologist and General Physician at St. Mary’s Hospital, London. Alongside this, Dr Smith is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London, Consultant Hepatologist at the Royal Free Hospital, Lead for the West London Primary Billary Cirrhosis ODN, and a Medical Assessor for the England Infected Blood Support Scheme. Dr Smith conducts six outpatient clinics a week, and attends multidisciplinary meetings reviewing liver histology, liver radiology, viral hepatitis management and obstetric medicine. She coordinates the haemochromatois service at St Mary’s hospital
Clinical Interests
Dr Smith has interests in general hepatology, viral hepatitis, alcoholic liver disease, pregnancy and liver disease, autoimmune liver disease, liver transplant assessment, haemochromatois and abnormal liver function tests. She conducts specialist clinics in pregnancy related liver disease (with the Queen Charlotte’s Hospital), autoimmune liver disease, and liver transplant follow up. She also looks after inpatient liver patients at St Mary’s Hospital.
